My “favorite” question that I get is this one… “So does that make Sean gay?”
I say “favorite” because it makes me giggle. People ask us a lot of questions out of the goodness of their hearts, and knowing we’re the first people to go through this that most people know, we’re both incredibly open to answering any and all questions (even the bedroom ones, which DO come up, lol).
So does this make Sean gay? YES! But not in the way you’d imagine… Sean liked girls and that doesn’t change. As a woman, Sarah likes girls too. So… yes. She’s gay. A lesbian, actually. Let me give you a moment to wrap your brain around that…
You got it?
Ready to continue?
Did I blow your mind all over your computer (who am I kidding… You are all reading this on your phones…)
Ready? Ok. Good. Keep going. I’m not done π€…
Which leads me to my next point…. Your gender identity, meaning what gender (if any) you identify with has nothing to do with your sexually (LGBTQA+). Think of it this way… The gender you identify with has absolutely nothing to do with who you want to kiss goodnight.
Just because Sean became Sarah, it does not also mean she switches who she’s attracted to. See? Gender v. Sexuality. Now by no means am I any kind of theorist, nor am I interested in becoming one…I’m sure there are more elegant ways of putting this, but this works for me and helps others understand.
So Sean liked girls, which makes Sarah like girls…. Which ‘allows’ us to stay married! It’s a win win for everyone!
